Our Testimony
The most important principle for a successful marriage is understanding the concept of Covenant. Grasping the significance of the covenant between God and humanity, and between husband and wife, is foundational to understanding the mystery spoken of in Ephesians 5:32-33.
God’s vision for marriage becomes clear when we choose to abide in Him and allow Him to fully abide in us, guiding our lives as a covenant couple. Instead of pursuing our own agendas, we embrace His purpose. In a Covenant Marriage, God desires for us to work in unity with Him.
Scheduling intentional quality time with God and each other is essential for maintaining unity in marriage. Learning to work together effectively and respectfully as a covenant couple under God’s authority requires mutual submission to both God and each other.
Since 2015, we have practiced semi-annual Covenant Marriage Vision Retreats. Our first retreat saved our marriage by revealing our total dependence on God. It transformed us so profoundly that we were inspired to establish new traditions. In addition to weekly date nights, we now take two seven-day marriage retreats each year: one in the summer during our birthdays, wedding anniversary, and Resurrection Weekend (Easter), which we call our Season of Love; and the other in winter, between Christmas and the New Year, which is the perfect time to reflect on the birth of Christ and seek God’s direction and guidance for the coming year. We also added quarterly weekend retreats to review our vision goals, check our progress, and ensure we are aligned with God’s plan.
Covenant marriage is a sacred relationship unlike any other on earth. If we cultivate it, we will be a true reflection of God’s love and reap great rewards both here and in the hereafter.
This journal/planner is designed to help Covenant Marriage couples submit to God, work in unity with Him, and document the journey to stay aligned with His plan.
We recommend purchasing a new journal for each marriage retreat or getting the eBook version to reprint as needed. It’s both inspiring and humbling to look back at previous retreat journals and see what God has done and how you’ve grown together. We especially love witnessing how God miraculously answers our petitions in His perfect timing.
In the Bibliography section of this book, you’ll also find links to resources, including information on Louisiana laws related to community property and covenant marriage.
