Receiving the Covenant By Faith

Bible Study by Arletia Mayfield, From the Series Abraham the Father of our Faith: Receiving the Covenant by Faith.

Scripture: Isaiah 54:17

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord.

KEY POINTS

Have you considered all the “If’s” in the Bible?  If you do this, I will do that? “If” is a conditional word. Don’t gloss over the “If’s” in your Bible Study time.

  • Have you confessed with your mouth and sincerely believed in your heart that Jesus is Lord? (Romans 10:9)
  • Have you been baptized as an outward, public expression of your decision to follow Christ? (1 Peter 3:21)
  • Do you attend church, Bible Study and Sunday School religiously? (2 Timothy 2:15)
  • Do you spend time in prayer and devotion to God daily? (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
  • Do you prefer the company of believers more than unbelievers? (Romans 12:10)
  • Do you love Jesus and obey his commandments? (John 14:15)
  • Do you submit to God and resist the devil, (James 4:7) or do you run toward sin (Isaiah 59:7) saying, I’m covered by grace?

These are not a bunch of rules and regulations for salvation, but they are the sign of a person that takes their covenant with God seriously.

The Apostle Paul said, in Romans 8:15-16, What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

Jesus said in Matthew 7:21, Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
