Nurturing the Seed

Bible Study by Arletia Mayfield, From the series, The Harvest: Nurturing the Seed

Scripture: Psalm 1

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful;  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.  He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.  For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

KEY POINTS

Jesus was planted as a seed in the earth to accomplish several things:

  • Jesus is the mustard seed that was planted in the nation of Israel to spread to all the ends of the earth. Mark 4:26-29
  • Jesus came to teach us the way TO the Kingdom of God, which is through Him, because He is the only way to heaven – John 14:6
  • Jesus came to teach us the ways OF the Kingdom of God, which is righteousness, or being in right standing with God, through Christ Jesus, which begins when we are born again – John 3:3
  • Jesus came to give his life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:28
  • Jesus came to fulfill the will of the Father – to reconcile or reunite us with God, so He could have a personal relationship with us. John 3:16, 14:20, 17:21, 2 Timothy 1:14

Let’s look at how Jesus Christ planted, watered and nurtured, his disciples.
